The State Board of Education has voted to remove the word "flagship" from the University of Idaho's mission statement, according to the Idaho Statesman.
The University of Idaho was disappointed with the decision. President Duane Nellis told the board, "I think flagship is reflective of what we are," adding, "We are the state's flagship research university. There is no question about that."
The university, established in 1889, could now face "negative connotations," according to Nellis.
