Senate Bill 1138 — Provisional license for electricians

Senate Bill 1138 — Provisional license for electricians

by
Lindsay Atkinson
March 7, 2019

Bill description: SB 1138 would create a new, provisional license for electricians.

Rating: +1

Does it increase barriers to entry into the market? Examples include occupational licensure, the minimum wage, and restrictions on home businesses. Conversely, does it remove barriers to entry into the market?

SB 1138 would create a provisional journeyman electrician license. This new license would fill a time gap experienced by individuals who move here from another state, want to work as a journeyman electrician, and have the skills and knowledge to do so. Currently, they cannot do so until they take and pass Idaho’s journeyman exam. A new provisional license would allow them to work until they could take the exam.
