House Bill 355 — Property tax freeze

House Bill 355 — Property tax freeze

by

January 24, 2020

Bill description: HB 355 would freeze property tax collection for one year.

Rating: +1

Does it directly or indirectly create or increase any taxes, fees, or other assessments? Conversely, does it eliminate or reduce any taxes, fees, or other assessments?

HB 355 offers property tax relief to Idahoans by freezing property tax rates for one year. Under this bill, the property tax rates used by local taxing districts would be the same for tax year 2020 as it was for tax year 2019, unless two-thirds of the voters in that district agree to an increase. A property tax freeze was last implemented in Idaho in 1979, during a similar time of rapid growth in property taxes.
