Bill Description: House Bill 247 allows students to use their education tax dollars at an alternative education provider if their public school is closed for at least four weeks.

Rating: +1

Does it create, expand, or enlarge any agency, board, program, function, or activity of government? Conversely, does it eliminate or curtail the size or scope of government?

This bill allows students to take their education tax dollars to an alternative education provider if their public school is closed for full-time in-person instruction for at least  four weeks. Students who need in-person instruction can use these funds to attend a private school, start a learning pod, receive private tutoring or purchase materials for homeschooling, among other options. House Bill 247 uses existing education dollars and has no impact on the general fund. This bill eliminates the government's power to trap students in closed public schools for more than four weeks.
