House Bill 080 — Yellow dot, vehicle, repeal (+1)

Bill Description: House Bill 80 would repeal the Yellow Dot program.

Rating: +1

Does it create, expand, or enlarge any agency, board, program, function, or activity of government? Conversely, does it eliminate or curtail the size or scope of government?

In 2020, the Idaho Legislature passed House Bill 497 to create Chapter 47, Title 39, Idaho Code, which established the Yellow Dot program. The program provides participating drivers with a paper folder for medical information and a yellow dot window decal for their vehicles. The idea is that emergency responders who see the dot will know to check the glove box for the medical information folder.

This was an unnecessary government program for several reasons. One is the existence of superior alternatives, such as medical bracelets with QR codes and smartphone apps that provide more comprehensive and current information than a paper folder would do.

House Bill 80 would repeal this chapter of code.
