House Bill 047 — Adoption records (+1)

Bill Description: House Bill 47 would make birth records available to all adoptees once they reach adulthood.

Rating: +1

Does it in any way restrict public access to information related to government activity or otherwise compromise government transparency, accountability, or election integrity? Conversely, does it increase public access to information related to government activity or increase government transparency, accountability, or election integrity?

House Bill 47 would amend Section 39-258, Idaho Code, which deals with adoption records. Currently, the law provides that birth records are made available to adoptees once they reach adulthood only if the adoption occurred on or after July 1, 2022. This bill would expand the availability of birth records to all adoptees once they reach adulthood.

This change provides adoptees with increased access to government records about their own history, including medical and demographic information.
