Gas company wants to eliminate its gas efficiency program

Avista, which serves north Idaho with natural gas, is asking the Idaho Public Utilities Commission for permission to do away with its gas energy efficiency programs.

The company, according to a story in the Coeur d'Alene Press, says the low cost of natural gas and abundant supplies offset the need for the programs. The company says current Idaho rates are below those charged in 2004.

If approved, the programs will be suspended Sept. 1.
