What began as a plan to clean up the mining area in Idaho's Silver Valley at a cost of $1.3 billion over 50 years has been amended to $635 million and 30 years, according to a story in the Idaho Statesman. According to the story, the state of Idaho, local Indian tribes who brought suit asking for the cleanup and the Environmental Protection Agency have agreed to the revised plan.
The project involves cleaning up arsenic, lead and other heavy metals due to mining pollution accumulated in the valley during a 100 years of mining activity.
