Bill Description: Senate Concurrent Resolution 105 expresses legislative support for the state taking federal funds for adoption education.
Rating: -1
Does it increase government spending (for objectionable purposes) or debt? Conversely, does it decrease government spending or debt?
Senate Concurrent Resolution 105 says "the Legislature declares its support for the receiving of federal funds for adoption education, adoption awareness, and the improvement and expansion of birth mother support and care."
Accepting federal dollars for any purpose makes the state depend more on federal dollars, and those federal dollars become an ever-larger share of the state budget.
This is problematic for two reasons. The first is that the skyrocketing federal debt now exceeds $36 trillion, and is mortgaging the futures of our children and grandchildren — all to subsidize this generation's unsustainable consumption.
The second problem is that federal dollars often come with strings that obligate the state to comply with policies and priorities that go against the values and best interests of the state. This issue is compounded as the state's dependence on federal dollars grows.
Idaho should seek to reduce the state's dependence on federal dollars, not continue or expand these transfers.
