Senate Bill 1358 — Empowering parents grant

Senate Bill 1358 — Empowering parents grant

Bill Description: Senate Bill 1358 makes minor improvements to the Empowering Parents Grant Program.

Rating: +1

NOTE: The Senate amendment to Senate Bill 1358 removed homeschool co-op fees from the list of eligible education expenses covered by the grant.

Does the bill expand the existing government monopoly on education and shrink family and student choice or agency?

Senate Bill 1358 makes small adjustments to the empowering parents grant program. Specifically, it changes the funding process for education-related internet access, expands some of the expenses covered by the grants (like homeschool co-op fees and school fees for public school students and those in charter schools), and expands the time frame for the empowering parents grant program.

Though small changes, they provide some added flexibility and family choice in education options and how to apply the grant funds.
