Senate Bill 1140

Senate Bill 1140

by
Phil Haunschild
March 14, 2017

Bill Description: This bill would create a quicker method for paraprofessionals to receive their teaching certification.

Rating: +1

Does it give government any new, additional, or expanded power to prohibit, restrict, or regulate activities in the free market? Conversely, does it eliminate or reduce government intervention in the market?

Paraprofessionals are individuals working without a teacher certification in Idaho school districts. Their experience serving the districts improves their ability to teach. This bill would expedite the teacher certification process for “paraprofessionals who have shown a commitment to their districts and an interest in pursuing teacher certification.” Districts would continue to benefit from relevant experience, provide a new opportunity for paraprofessionals, while reducing the shortage of teachers in Idaho.
