Senate Bill 1050

Senate Bill 1050

by
Phil Haunschild
February 8, 2017

Bill description: This bill will allow parents or guardians of children to decline to receive immunizations without using a government provided form.

Rating: +1

Does it give government any new, additional, or expanded power to prohibit, restrict, or regulate activities in the free market? Conversely, does it eliminate or reduce government intervention in the market?

This bill adds the following statement to Section 39-4802, Idaho Code: “The signed statement may appear in a letter from the parent or guardian and is not required to be made on a form furnished by the state board of health and welfare, a school or another entity.” While parents and guardians opting out of the vaccination program for their children is already guaranteed, adding this provision protects it. No longer would a particular form from a school or any other group deter a parent from choosing not to participate. (+1)
