SB 1303 - State Board of Education executive staff

by
Phil Haunschild
March 6, 2018

Bill description: SB 1303 would allow the state Board of Education to appoint additional executive officers in addition to the executive director.

Rating: -2

Does it create, expand, or enlarge any agency, board, program, function, or activity of government? Conversely, does it eliminate or curtail the size or scope of government?

SB 1303 would allow the state Board of Education to appoint additional executive staff in addition to the single director they can currently appoint. These staff members would serve at the pleasure of the board, and the board would be responsible for setting their salaries.

(-1)

Does it increase government spending (for objectionable purposes) or debt? Conversely, does it decrease government spending or debt?

The Fiscal Note for SB 1303 states that one additional position would cost $269,500 to implement. This position (the Higher Education CEO) would be responsible for coordinating across Idaho’s institutions of higher education.
