Bill description: SB 1212 would allow the Idaho Division of Career Technical Education to include middle school courses in their programs.
Rating: -1
Does it create, expand, or enlarge any agency, board, program, function, or activity of government? Conversely, does it eliminate or curtail the size or scope of government?
The Idaho Division of Career Technical Education provides funding for programs at the high school level and above to educate students on subjects such as agriculture, trade work, or industrial work. The purpose of the programs is to draw more students into these vocations.
SB 1212 would expand the division’s programs by adding Middle School programs to the list of programs that could receive funding. Though allowing middle school students the opportunity to study these more practical subjects would not be detrimental, the bureaucratic expansion that this government-funded program necessitates would be. The Fiscal Note for SB 1212 notes, adding middle school programs would require the addition of two new employees to manage the Board’s involvement with the middle school courses.
