Rep. Phil Hart, R-Athol, who's been waging a fight against the IRS about paying taxes, Thursday was ordered to pay his back taxes, according to the Idaho Statesman.
Hart will have to pay over $53,000 in delinquent taxes that he owes, plus the state's expenses for the trial. The state said it will bill the lawyer's fee at $150 per hour.
Hart, who has been involved in several issues over the years, including building a house with timber he took from Idaho endowment land, is considered a hero by some who believe taxes are illegal. Hart declared as much in 1996, when he stopped paying them.
