Legislators approved a budget increase Monday for the Idaho Department of Correction, according to the Idaho Statesman.
Although the increase will certainly help with ongoing issues, such as crowding in jails, the money probably won't be enough to allow to the state to stop sending overflow inmates to out-of-state prisons, said department spokesman Jeff Ray.
Another issue of concern to the department is the relative low pay for prison guards when compared to neighboring states, which the department says is causing a high turnover rate.
