On Wednesday, Idaho Freedom Foundation Wayne Hoffman applauded conservative legislators who announced a legal challenge to Gov. Butch Otter’s senseless and harmful veto of a bill to repeal Idaho’s grocery tax.
“Thank you to conservative legislators for carrying on the fight to repeal the grocery tax.To uphold the integrity of the state constitution and for the benefit of every Idahoan in need of real tax relief, Secretary of State Lawerence Denney is strongly encouraged to consider the governor's veto of House Bill 67 as untimely and unlawful.”
On Tuesday evening, Otter announced his veto of House Bill 67, which would have repealed Idaho’s grocery tax, giving families more buying power at the grocery checkout line. The bill would have also aided struggling border communities that lose jobs and capital investment to neighboring states that don’t tax food.
