According to the Associated Press, Idaho state Treasurer Ron Crane has racked up charges on his state credit card for fuel that he shouldn’t have, to the tune of about $6,900 over the last three years.
Idaho Legislative Services, which conducts an audit of the treasurer’s office at least once every three years, found the discrepancy. Crane believes that he is actually saving taxpayers money, since he uses his personal car for state business and says he was “dumbfounded” when auditors reported the findings to the state attorney general.
