Idaho Freedom Foundation launches transparency website

The Idaho Freedom Foundation today launched OurIdaho.com, a website for Idahoans interested in government transparency. The website contains billions of dollars in state government spending data and the names, titles and pay rates for around 40,000 government employees statewide.

"We wanted to provide taxpayers with new levels of information about how government works, and we wanted to provide it in a user friendly manner. A quality transparency website allows for the discovery of spending that is unnecessary or wasteful, or simply should be eliminated. We can never have too many opportunities to save taxpayer dollars," said Wayne Hoffman, executive director of the Idaho Freedom Foundation.

OurIdaho.com contains state spending data as well as employee information from Idaho state government, Boise, Nampa, Meridian, Twin Falls, Pocatello, Coeur d'Alene, Twin Falls, Ada and Bannock counties, and the Boise, Meridian and Nampa school districts. IFF has gathered information from other cities and counties, and that information will be added in the weeks and months ahead.

The website also carries the endorsement of the Idaho Newspaper Foundation and Idahoans for Openness in Government. The Idaho Freedom Foundation is a non-profit, non-partisan free market education, research and public policy organization. IFF began operating in January.
