House Bill 843 — Homestead exemption, proration (+1)

House Bill 843 — Homestead exemption, proration (+1)

Bill Description: House Bill 843 would simplify the calculation of the property tax homestead exemption by removing the requirement that it be prorated.

Rating: +1

Does it increase government spending (for objectionable purposes) or debt? Conversely, does it decrease government spending or debt?

House Bill 843 would amend Section 63-602G, Idaho Code, which deals with the property tax homestead exemption, to remove language requiring the calculation to be prorated based on when a property becomes eligible or ineligible during a year.

This will simplify calculations for both homeowners and counties, and eliminate some inconsistent applications of the law, which can occur when people move or change primary residences in Idaho.
