House Bill 840 — Comm on Hispanic affairs (+1)

House Bill 840 — Comm on Hispanic affairs (+1)

Bill Description: House Bill 840 would set in motion certain steps for winding down state funding for the Hispanic Commission, but delay implementation until July 1, 2028.

Rating: +1

Does it increase government spending (for objectionable purposes) or debt? Conversely, does it decrease government spending or debt?

House Bill 840 would amend Section 63-2552A, Idaho Code, to remove a provision allocating $80,000 annually to the commission on Hispanic affairs “to be used for substance abuse prevention efforts in collaboration with the state department of education.”

The bill would also amend Section 63-3029A, Idaho Code, to remove the commission on Hispanic affairs from a list of favored charitable organizations that entitle donors to a special charitable contributions income tax credit.

Both of these changes would not be implemented until July 1, 2028.

It is also worth noting that the bulk of state funding for the Hispanic Commission comes from an approximately $200,000-per-year General Fund appropriation, which would have to be removed through the budgeting process in the Idaho Legislature’s Joint Finance Appropriations Committee (JFAC).
