Bill Description: House Bill 81 would remove the sunset clause from HB 109 of 2019, keeping a specific committee operating indefinitely.
Rating: -2
Does it create, expand, or enlarge any agency, board, program, function, or activity of government? Conversely, does it eliminate or curtail the size or scope of government?
In February 2019, the Idaho House narrowly passed HB 109 (34-33-3), establishing a 12-15 member "maternal mortality review committee," with all of its associated costs. It is not the proper role of government to determine what scientific research should be performed or to compel taxpayers to subsidize it.
The only positive thing that could be said about this expansion of government was that it contained a sunset date of July 1, 2023.
House Bill 81 would repeal the sunset clause, allowing this committee to continue indefinitely.

Does it increase government spending (for objectionable purposes) or debt? Conversely, does it decrease government spending or debt?
Government committees cost money to operate. House Bill 81 would repeal a sunset clause and allow the "maternal mortality review committee" to operate indefinitely, saddling Idaho taxpayers with its costs.
