Rating: +1
Does the bill create more transparency or accountability in public education institutions? Conversely, does the bill reduce transparency and accountability in such institutions?
House Bill 476 would amend Section 18-8707, Idaho Code, which prohibits "abortion-related activities" in facilities "operated at a public institution of higher education or operated by a public school district."
The new subsection added by this bill would say, "No public school district shall allow any individual or organization that is a provider of abortion, as defined in section 18-604, Idaho Code, to furnish any materials or instruction relating to sex education curricula."
Public schools must be transparent and accountable to parents regarding the information they provide to children, and outsourcing the provision of sensitive curricula compromises this transparency and accountability.
It would be particularly problematic for schools to allow curricula to be provided by businesses or organizations that pursue and advocate actions contrary to the laws and public policy of the state.
