House Bill 245 — Foster care (-1)

House Bill 245 — Foster care (-1)

Bill Description: House Bill 245 would allow a court to order "extended foster care" for adults up to 23 years old.

Rating: -1

Does it increase government spending (for objectionable purposes) or debt? Conversely, does it decrease government spending or debt?

Section 16-1622, Idaho Code, contains a provision that allows a court to order "extended foster care" for adults, age 18-21. The stated purpose for this order is to "help such person achieve a successful transition to adulthood."

House Bill 245 would further extend this "extended foster care" for adults through age 23.

The bill's fiscal note estimates spending more than $420,000 annually to keep 40 additional adults in the state's taxpayer-funded foster care system.
