House Bill 124 — Voting, identification, students

House Bill 124 — Voting, identification, students

by

February 14, 2023

Bill Description: House Bill 124 would disallow the use of student IDs as a valid form of identification in polling places.

Rating: +1

Does it in any way restrict public access to information related to government activity or otherwise compromise government transparency, accountability, or election integrity? Conversely, does it increase public access to information related to government activity or increase government transparency, accountability, or election integrity?

House Bill 124 would amend 34-1113, Idaho Code, to repeal subsection 4, which allows "a current student identification card" to be used as a form of ID when voting in person. This change should improve the security of elections by requiring voters to present a form of ID that includes critical information such as address and birthdate, which might not be included on a student ID.
