Bill Description: House Bill 21 would enact more stringent requirements for obtaining temporary trip permits to drive in Idaho.
Rating: -1
Does it give government any new, additional, or expanded power to prohibit, restrict, or regulate activities in the free market? Conversely, does it eliminate or reduce government intervention in the market?
Idaho requires a temporary trip permit for any unregistered vehicles being transported to or through Idaho. House Bill 21 would amend Section 49-432, Idaho Code, to require that such permits be "purchased prior to movement of the vehicle on a highway."
According to the bill's statement of purpose, the number of permits being purchased has gone down, and the Idaho transportation department suspects this is because "some interstate transporters appear to be willing to risk not purchasing the trip permit."
The department believes this bill will result in thousands of additional permits being purchased, with hundreds of thousands of dollars in increased revenue flowing to the state treasury.
This bill imposes more demanding regulations on the free market in order to generate additional revenue for the state.
