The Idaho House of Representatives Friday approved the budget for the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) for the next fiscal year. IDOC would receive $150 million in state tax dollars for state prisons and other programs. The vote on the budget was 39-20. Most previous budget votes have had far fewer no votes.
Many Democrats voted against the corrections budget. "This budget appears to be a trainwreck ready to happen," said Rep. Shirley Ringo, D-Moscow. She serves on the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee (JFAC), which set the IDOC budget. Read IdahoReporter.com's story on JFAC's budget for state prisons.
