Bill description: HB 497 would require the notification of individuals within 72 hours if law enforcement has their vehicle towed.
Rating: +1
Does it in any way restrict public access to information related to government activity or otherwise compromise government transparency or accountability? Conversely, does it increase public access to information related to government activity or increase government transparency or accountability?
Currently, law enforcement agencies are required to mail a notification to individuals within 96 hours if their vehicle has been towed following an accident, arrest, or other “extraordinary circumstance”.
HB 497 would require a more timely notice for owners, the towing notification would have to be mailed within 72 hours. This legislation would also require that lien holders, who have money invested in the towed vehicle, receive notification from the law enforcement agency that authorizes the towing.
