HB 374 - Mining notifications

HB 374 - Mining notifications

by
Phil Haunschild
January 22, 2018

Bill Description: This bill modernizes notification requirements for those engaged in mining exploration.

Rating: +1

Does it directly or indirectly create or increase any taxes, fees, or other assessments? Conversely, does it eliminate or reduce any taxes, fees, or other assessments?

HB 374 would allow individuals or businesses engaged in mining exploration to notify the Director of the Department of Lands when they begin exploring by methods other than certified mail. As communication options have multiplied this allows more convenience for miners and would reduce paperwork for the state to process.

Similarly, HB 374 would allow miners greater flexibility as to when they must notify the director. Presently, the miners have a seven day window to notify the director after the beginning of the exploration. HB 374 would allow for a notification anytime before they have begun until seven days after they commence.
