Dar Symms (right in photo), president of Symms Fruit Ranch, is joining the Idaho Freedom Foundation’s board, the free market think tank announced Wednesday.
“I am thrilled to take part in the Freedom Foundation’s ambitious work,” Symms said. “They hold lawmakers accountable and fight government’s unceasing intrusions into Idahoans’ lives. I applaud their efforts.”
Symms has worked for Symms Fruit Ranch since 1994, serving as the company’s president since 2009. He oversees packing operations, marketing to Latin America, finances and other general tasks.
Prior to joining the fruit ranch, Symms earned his law degree from the University of Idaho in 1991. He has been a member of the Idaho Bar Association since 1992.
“I am passionate about finding solutions to problems without government interference,” Symms said. “I believe in Idahoans’ ability to write their own future, safe from the red tape rolled out by government bureaucrats.”
Idaho Freedom Foundation President Wayne Hoffman lauded Symms Wednesday, celebrating his decision to join the organization.
“Dar Symms is a trusted, staunch voice for the principles the Freedom Foundation holds,” Hoffman said. “I am grateful Dar decided to join our efforts to expose government waste, end special perks for connected lawmakers and inform the public about lawmakers’ big-spending ways.
Symms is married and has two children. In his spare time, he enjoys travel, golf and outdoor recreation, including hunting, hiking, skiing and fishing.
Symms decision expands the board to six members.Investment advisor Bob Rathbone serves as the board chairman, and small businessman Brent Regan hold the co-chair post. Other members included Heather Lauer, Dr. Loel Fenwick and former state Sen. Russ Fulcher.
