“After hiking taxes on Idahoans by $95 million this year, Idahoans deserve at least $100 million in relief next year,” Hoffman said.

The Freedom Foundation’s budget increases state spending by a modest 2.6 percent, phases out Idaho’s single-payer health program, increases spending for schools and provides Education Savings Accounts for special-needs students.

Hoffman said lawmakers have options to provide between $100 million and $200 million in tax relief to struggling Idaho families. He noted, “Legislators can lower the income tax, eliminate taxes on groceries and make further cuts to the personal property tax.”

“In short, the budget we are outlining for you today sets the stage for dramaticreductions in taxes — reductions that are good for Idaho, good for Idahoans and affordable.”

The plan also helps Idaho cut some strings tied to Washington, D.C., money by shifting state funds to cover critical programs now funded by the federal government.
