Under current law, nurses, health care professionals, assistants, and other employees of a licensed nursing, assisted living, or other long-term care facility are prohibited from providing services to residents that would otherwise be considered barbering or cosmetology. For example, an assistant at an assisted living facility might help a resident with their shaving or other basic grooming tasks. Some facilities have been told they must hire cosmetologists, estheticians, or other licensed individuals to perform these tasks.

HB 144 would allow individuals working at these facilities to provide this care without having to obtain a license.
