Bill description: HB 420 would allow government entities to publish legal notices on their website rather than in a printed circulated publication.
Rating: +1
Does it increase government spending (for objectionable purposes) or debt? Conversely, does it decrease government spending or debt?
Many government agencies are required to publish legal notices prior to taking certain legal actions. For example, notices are required prior to a change in zoning ordinances, when bids are sought from contractors, before the issuance of a legal summons, et cetera.
To allow the electronic publication of legal notices, HB 420 could reduce this line item expense for every government agencies’ budget. Electronic publication would have a substantial impact on local government agencies, such as cities, counties, or highway districts, as they publish a larger sum of legal notices. The Fiscal Note for HB 420 estimates that the electronic publication of legal notices could save at least $600,000 total each year for Idaho’s 44 county governments.
