Job cuts at HP to affect Boise employees

Job cuts at HP to affect Boise employees

Hewlett-Packard has announced 27,000 job cuts for the company, some of which will affect Boise, according to the Idaho Statesman.

The tech company has not said how much Boise operations will be affected, but overall the company will downsize by around 8 percent. An 8 percent cut in Boise would mean the loss of around 320 jobs.

The company points to smartphones and tablets, such as the iPad, as the reason for the needed cuts. It says selling personal computers is becoming harder because of the increased use of smartphones and tablets.

The reduction in jobs process will happen over a fairly long period of time, ending in 2014.
