Custer County has been essentially told to stand down with its plan to remove boulders blocking a rural road in the county. The ruling came from Judge B. Lynn Winmill, according to the Idaho Statesman. Officials had threatened to remove boulders, even sending heavy machinery to the road.
County officials argue that the closure, which the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) enacted more than 10 years ago, was done without asking locals. The BLM closed the road to set up a wilderness study area. The judge ruled that if Custer County removed the boulders, it would be in violation of federal law.
