Gov. Otter said Wednesday that he against moving the primary to August. One reason, he said, is because that is the time when families are wrapping up their summer vacations and preparing for kids to go back to school. Otter feels a better turnout will come from the original May primary because students are still in class and the summer vacation season has not arrived yet.

Rep. Tom Loertscher, R-Iona, introduced the measure to move the primary. Otter says it would hurt turnout everywhere, including Bone--where Loertscher lives.
