Bill Description: Senate Bill 1378 would add acquiring applicable federal matching funds as a primary purpose of the off-road motor vehicle account.
Rating: -1
Does it increase government spending (for objectionable purposes) or debt? Conversely, does it decrease government spending or debt?
Senate Bill 1378 amends seven sections of code related to snowmobiles and off-highway vehicles. While most of the changes are minor and deal primarily with the allocation of revenue from fees, a change made to Section 57-1901, Idaho Code, is particularly concerning.
The bill would add several new purposes for which money in the existing “off-road motor vehicle account” may be used, including to “acquire applicable federal matching funds.”
As of March 9, 2026, the federal debt sits at $38.9 trillion, and this number only continues to grow. Seeking or increasing reliance on federal dollars in any capacity compounds the unsustainable federal spending that is driving our nation ever closer to bankruptcy and mortgaging the futures of this and future generations.
