Bill Description: House Bill 509 would clarify that large commercial vehicles would not be subject to reinspection for 72 hours following an initial inspection.
Rating: +1
Does it give government any new, additional, or expanded power to prohibit, restrict, or regulate activities in the free market? Conversely, does it eliminate or reduce government intervention in the market?
Idaho law requires large commercial vehicles (over 26,000 pounds) to stop at ports of entry and other inspection stations.
House Bill 509 would amend Section 40-511, Idaho Code, to say that once one of these vehicles has stopped for a mandated inspection, it does not have to do so again for another 72 hours.
Mandated government inspections inhibit the efficiency of the free market, and this change would reduce delays drivers of commercial vehicles and their employers face by reducing the number of duplicative inspections. It may also reduce delays for those waiting for initial inspections.
