Senate Bill 1049 — Voting, affidavit, repeal (+1)

Senate Bill 1049 — Voting, affidavit, repeal (+1)

Bill Description: Senate Bill 1049 would remove the option for a voter to sign an affidavit in lieu of showing photo ID at a polling place.

Rating: +1

Does it in any way restrict public access to information related to government activity or otherwise compromise government transparency, accountability, or election integrity? Conversely, does it increase public access to information related to government activity or increase government transparency, accountability, or election integrity?

Senate Bill 1049 would repeal Section 34-1114, Idaho Code, which allows a voter to complete an affidavit in lieu of showing photo ID at a polling place. The bill would also amend three other sections of code to remove references to this option.

Removing this option would streamline the voting process, remove uncertainty, and promote election integrity and security.

It is worth noting that Idaho offers a no-fee ID card for those who do not have a driver’s license or other valid form of voter ID.
