Senate Bill 1079 — City elections, even-numbered years

Senate Bill 1079 — City elections, even-numbered years

Bill Description: Senate Bill 1079 would move city elections from odd years to even years.

Rating: +1

Does it in any way restrict public access to information related to government activity or otherwise compromise government transparency, accountability, or election integrity? Conversely, does it increase public access to information related to government activity or increase government transparency, accountability, or election integrity?

Senate Bill 1079 would amend five sections of Idaho Code that reference city elections to move them from the November General Election Day in odd-numbered years to the November General Election Day in even-numbered years.

This change would align city elections with other state and federal elections, likely resulting in higher voter turnout and increased awareness of municipal elections.

This change could result in financial savings for counties if it removes the need to hold a November election in odd-numbered years.
