Bill Description: House Bill 624 would double the advanced warning a property owner is required to provide a renter about a forthcoming rent increase.
Rating: -1
Does it give government any new, additional, or expanded power to prohibit, restrict, or regulate activities in the free market? Conversely, does it eliminate or reduce government intervention in the market?
Existing law requires that property owners or their property managers provide tenants "written notice of any increase in the amount of rent charged or of the landlord's intention of nonrenewal of the lease at least" 30 days before "such nonrenewal of the lease; or such increase in the amount of rent charged is intended to take effect."
House Bill 624 would amend Section 55-307, Idaho Code, to double this notification period from 30 days to 60 days. This is an increase in government regulation, a limitation of property rights, and state interference in the right of individuals to agree to voluntary contracts.
