BOISE, Idaho–Today, Idaho Freedom Foundation President Ron Nate released the following statement after a radical abortion initiative qualified for Idaho’s November ballot:
"There is no issue more important to me, or to Idaho Freedom Foundation, than the sanctity of life.
Every right, privilege, and duty of citizenship flows from our most fundamental right: the right to live.
Idaho Freedom Foundation condemns this far-left abortion initiative, which would bring California-style abortion on demand to Idaho. This proposal goes even further than the abortion policies of New York and California by allowing abortions up until the moment of birth.
When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Planned Parenthood’s abortionists had to leave Idaho. This initiative would bring them back. The thought of this turns my stomach.
Some Idahoans would be ok with a law only allowing abortion in special circumstances, but this initiative is more extreme than prior law. It would allow abortions to the moment before birth, and for minors without parental consent. This is way too extreme.
The initiative is morally abhorrent. It is evil.
Idaho Freedom Foundation will use every resource available to oppose this initiative and educate Idahoans about its morally reprehensible consequences.
This is a moment for unity among those who are pro-life. While we may disagree on other issues, we must set those differences aside over the next four months and present a united front against this initiative. IFF is willing to work with anyone, regardless of political affiliation, who is committed to defeating it.
Further, many Idahoans who have moved here have seen firsthand how governance by ballot initiative has damaged the states they left behind. Together, we must make it clear that the left’s repeated attempts to sidestep the legislative process have no place in Idaho.
Now is the time to put our differences aside. We can debate tax policy or housing regulations another day. Today, we stand together to defeat this California-style pro-abortion ballot initiative. We must win. Future generations and innocent, individual little babies are counting on us."
