Bonner County officials look to delist caribou

Bonner County officials look to delist caribou

The U.S. Department of Fish & Wildlife Service is proposing to set aside 375,000 acres in north Idaho and Washington for a habitat for a caribou herd that it says is endangered.

Opponents argue that the herd isn't distinct, therefore it should not be listed as endangered. Opponents also argue that shutting down that large of an area will have a significant impact on local economies since those parts of the state rely on many outdoor resources, including logging, forest access and snowmobiling.
