Senate Bill 1067 — AI regulation limitations (+1)

Bill Description: Senate Bill 1067 would prevent special or targeted regulation of artificial intelligence.

Rating: +1

Does it give government any new, additional, or expanded power to prohibit, restrict, or regulate activities in the free market? Conversely, does it eliminate or reduce government intervention in the market?

Senate Bill 1067 would create Chapter 98, Title 67, Idaho Code, to provide relevant definitions and prevent governmental entities from enacting or enforcing "any law or ordinance that has the express or practical effect of constraining the development, training, or use of artificial intelligence."

It would further say this includes but is not limited to "regulating research and development, deployment in commercial applications, and consumer use of AI technologies."

Although the bill prohibits special or targeted regulation, it would still allow for general regulation saying, "AI technologies shall be classified as general purpose technology for regulatory purposes, subject to all requirements applicable thereto."
