Rep. Ron Nate explains why tax cut bill lacks grocery tax repeal

April 23, 2021

The Idaho Legislature is poised to pass a sizable tax cut and rebate package in the final days of the 2021 session. Though there's a lot of good in the bill, the measure doesn't include grocery tax repeal, a wildly popular policy idea that has been debated years.

Rep. Ron Nate, R-Rexburg, explained on the House floor Thursday why he believes the measure lacks grocery tax repeal. Nate was quickly admonished by House Speaker Scott Bedke, R-Oakley, over the comments.
