Policy Director

Idaho Freedom Foundation (IFF) is the premier free market research institute in Idaho. Officially organized in 2008, IFF’s mission is to defeat Marxism and socialism by building a culture of liberty around America's founding principles so that Idahoans can prosper.

Our research, journalism, education, and advocacy dovetail to help Idaho policy makers make better decisions, rooted in conservative principles, so that Idahoans will be better off. IFF’s work has been credited with saving taxpayers millions of dollars, eliminating failed government programs, and holding politicians accountable like never before in the state’s history.

We are expanding our team by hiring a dynamic and experienced Policy Director to lead our engagement with government officials, policy makers and key stakeholders and to expand our research capabilities. The Director will develop and implement strategies to influence policy decisions, conduct research, and cultivate relationships that align with the IFF’s values.

Job details:

The Policy Director will engage in research, writing, and public communication about various policy issues including but not limited to education, health care, technology, labor, and taxation and budgets. The ideal candidate will be a passionate, entrepreneurial, highly motivated self-starter with a commitment to upholding the principles of liberty. The Director will report to the Vice President. 

This full-time position will be based in IFF’s Boise office.

Responsibilities will include: 

• Researching, analyzing, and making recommendations on the IFF’s policy issues
• Analyze proposed legislation and regulatory initiatives to assess their alignment with the IFF’s principles.
• Building coalitions with allied organizations9
• Working with lawmakers and government officials to craft legislation and achieve public policy goals
• Testifying before legislative committees
• Filing public records requests as needed 
• Contribute to public education and awareness efforts through media interviews, public speaking engagements, op-eds, and other communication platforms. Articulate the IFF’s positions and engage in informed discussions on policy matters.
• Helping with other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of relevant legislative and policy experience
• Advanced degree in political science, economics, law or related field preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge of Idaho state and local government structures, political landscape, and policy issues
• Proficiency in statistics and/or finance will be favorably considered
• Ability to effectively research and advocate IFF’s conservative free market principles and recommendations
• Strong research, writing, editing, and public presentation skills
• Experience with basic software applications such as those in Microsoft Office, Excel, Adobe, and Google Workspace (including Google Docs, Drive, and Calendar)
