Urban renewal proposal in Boise

Urban renewal proposal in Boise

The Idaho Statesman had this to say Dec. 12 regarding about a new urban renewal proposal in Boise: "Statehouse critics see urban renewal as a power grab and a money grab — one that siphons away precious tax dollars from city and county coffers." That's only partly true. There are other problems with urban renewal, too. Those problems include corporate cronyism, wealth redistribution and economic planning by government bureaucrats. And the problem with urban renewal is not so much that money is being siphoned away from cities and counties as it is that tax levies are being driven up as a result of urban renewal's tax increment financing schemes.
