Idaho water use research and management ... from space

Idaho water use research and management ... from space

A researcher from the University of Idaho has been looking toward the stars to help with Idaho's water management. Rick Allen is using satellite images to track water usage, according to the Times-News.

As it has become clear in recent years with cuts in NASA funding, it should be no surprise that the cost of the Landsat satellites used for this process cost a hefty chunk of change and is under review, to the tune of $1 billion for research and building of the satellite for Landsat 8, according to Allen.

The costs are an ongoing issue as well, because the satellites are only designed to be in orbit for five years.
