Bill Description: This bill amends the requirements and regulations for charter school applications

Does it increase barriers to entry into the market? Examples include occupational licensure, the minimum wage, and restrictions on home businesses. Conversely, does it remove barriers to entry into the market? 


This bill would “streamline the process to open new charter schools.” It eliminates the requirement that a petition for a new school identify “what it means to be an ‘educated person’ in the twenty-first century, and how learning best occurs.” Petitioners would no longer have to include “the disciplinary procedures that the public charter school will utilize, including the procedure by which students may be suspended, expelled and enrolled.” Eliminating these and many other requirements for petitioners will allow for a less burdensome application. Additionally, this bill will lessen waiting periods, while still ensuring adequate time for public involvement in the process, making it more efficient to establish charter schools. (+1)
