Alternative high school left out of merit pay pool

Alternative high school left out of merit pay pool

Only one school in the school district serving Sandpoint  students did not see its teachers receive a merit pay bonus, according to a story in the Bonner County Daily Bee.

The local district's alternative high school did not post test scores high enough to qualify for the bonuses. A teacher at the school says he and his fellow workers work hard to improve students' scores, but often they attend alternative schools because their skills are lower than those attending regular high school.

The district's superintendent says it is his understanding if the merit pay proposition had passed in November that the issue of how to handle alternative school performance for bonuses would have been addressed by the next Legislature, but the failure of the proposition leaves that issue in limbo.
